Catechist Information
Why be a Catechist?
The best way to learn is to teach!
Your own faith will come alive – and grow!
You become an active participant in one of the essential responsibilities of a Church community!
You help bring Christ to others!
You show your family that you value the faith!
While our Parish is blessed to have volunteers who return each year as Catechists, new volunteers are usually needed. Prior teaching experience is helpful but not required. You do need to be a practicing Catholic with a commitment to sharing your faith with our Parish youth and teaching them the fundamentals of our faith.
Catechists are provided with teaching guides, lesson plans and supplemental materials, as well as training and support from Parents, the Coordinator, Pastor, Deacons and fellow Catechists. Virtual or in-person Catechist Formation webinars and classes may be offered throughout the year in which volunteers are encouraged to participate.
Catechists prepare for and conduct faith formation classes, and must attend the Catechist Orientation meeting in September.
Confirmation students may assist in Kindergarten – 4th grade classes.
All adult Volunteers must meet the Office of Safe Environment requirements as mandated by the Archdiocese of Hartford: submit a Background Check Authorization form, read & acknowledge the Safe Environment Handbook, and complete online Virtus Protecting God’s Children training.
